Two-time Tony winning writer Alan Bennett’s new play, People will premiere at the National Theatre in London, reports The Daily News. The play, which will be helmed by the NT Artistic Director Nicholas Hytner, is set to open in late October at the Lyttelton Theatre.
Alan Bennett garnered the 2006 Best Play Tony Award for The History Boys, also directed by Hytner, and a special Tony for the revue Beyond the Fringe (in which he also performed). Hytner and Bennett also collaborated on The Madness of George III, The Habit of Art and The Wind in the Willows at the National, and The Lady in the Van at the Queen’s Theatre in London. Bennett's new work of short fiction, Smut, was recently released in the U.S.
Casting and further details on the subject matter of the play are yet to be announced.
